Policies

Housing

  1. All SOE participants are required to live in the designated UA residence
    hall
  2. Mutual roommate requests will be honored

Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco

  1. Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings and by anyone under
    the age of 18
  2. Use of drugs or alcohol during SOE, either on or off campus, will result
    in immediate dismissal from SOE

Courses

  1. SOE students must register for no less than 3 units and no more than 6 units per session
  2. Some courses require a Math Placement Exam which must be taken prior to enrollment
  3. Courses may not be audited or taken pass/fail

Activities

  1. Most activities are optional and may have out-of-pocket expenses associated with them for which students should plan accordingly
  2. Mandatory activities will be specified up front and will include opening orientation, closing ceremonies, weekly meetings, and attendance at at least two cultural activities/excursions

Transportation

  1. SOE participants are allowed to bring cars to campus and must make their own arrangements for a UA parking permit
  2. SOE provides insured University transportation to all sponsored events

Curfew

  1. All SOE participants must be inside the Hall by midnight and remain there until 6am, as Tucson city law requires that all individuals under the age of 18 be "home" by midnight; failure to meet curfew will result in disciplinary action, including possible dismissal from SOE. Students 18 and over must still abide by curfew policy.
  2. SOE students may leave campus overnight on weekends with prior parental consent, but not on weeknights except under special circumstances approved by the director
  3. Bed checks are performed at 11pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends to assure that all SOE participants are in the building and accounted for; students must be in their rooms for bed checks but do not have to be asleep and may leave their rooms after bed checks have been completed

Visitation

  1. SOE participants may have visitors in their rooms from 10am to 11pm on weeknights and 10am to midnight on weekends; roommates must come to an agreement about visitors in the room
  2. SOE students may not have guests (including other SOE participants) in their rooms outside of the designated visitation hours; common areas are available in Gila Hall for socializing
  3. SOE participants may not have overnight guests

SOE Behavior Agreement

All students admitted to SOE will receive a complete list of University of Arizona, Summer of Excellence, and Residence Life rules and regulations. Additionally, all students and their parents/guardians must sign the Standards of Behavior Agreement prior to participation in SOE. You can view or download the SOE Standards of Behavior Agreement in either Microsoft Word or PDF format. The most updated version will be available early in January.
